The May River Sharks used a balanced attack to edge the Christ Church Cavaliers 4-3 in a boys varsity Lacrosse non-conference game.
The close contest was played at May River High School on March 28 and saw both teams trading momentum throughout the match. The result matters for both programs as it highlights May River’s ability to secure wins in tightly contested games and maintain composure under pressure, which could impact their confidence heading into future matchups.
May River showcased resilience and composure in the 4–3 win over Christ Church Episcopal, leaning on timely scoring and a strong defensive finish. Drew Ernst, Turner Johnson, Renner Taylor, and Caden Riva secured one goal each to stay ahead in the low-scoring affair. The Sharks found momentum to take a slim lead, fueled by efficient ball movement and smart shot selection. Defensively, May River came up with several crucial stops, including key saves and forced turnovers that shifted momentum in their favor. Goaltender Ethan Ouellette proved to be an immovable wall with 10 saves. A relentless ground ball game proved to be the difference-maker, as Wesley Barnes and Camillo Martinez Cruz each scooped up 4 ground balls and flipped the field in favor of the Sharks.
Looking ahead, the May River Sharks will aim to carry this momentum into their next outing, a home non-conference clash against the River Bluff Gators on Friday, April 10, at 6 p.m., where they hope to extend their strong run and defend their home turf.
In their previous meeting, May River came out on top against River Bluff with a 12–8 victory on March 15 at River Bluff’s home field, a result that highlighted the Sharks’ ability to execute under pressure and could serve as a psychological edge heading into the rematch.
