On a night when the aerial strategy did not materialize, the May River Sharks relied on a powerful ground game to secure a 36-29 victory over Brookland-Cayce in a closely contested match on Friday night.
According to reports, the Sharks accumulated 394 rushing yards without any passing yards and only one attempted completion. Senior Sean Mitchell contributed significantly with 164 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. Andrew Johnson added 89 yards and two more scores, while Tony Cooper scored an additional rushing touchdown.
Despite being hindered by penalties—33 flags were recorded—the Sharks’ defense performed effectively. Zavier Polite led with seven solo tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and a sack. Sophomore Charlie Crace also made a significant impact with a sack, a fumble recovery, and a forced turnover.
Brookland-Cayce put up strong resistance, managing to keep pace late into the game. However, May River’s persistent ground strategy ultimately proved decisive. The Sharks demonstrated their ability to adapt under pressure and emerged as a formidable team.
