May River Sharks lost to James Island Trojans 12–11 in overtime in a boys varsity lacrosse non-conference game.
The close contest took place at May River High School and saw the Sharks narrowly defeated by the Trojans.
The outcome marked a hard-fought effort for May River, which finished with 11 goals on 35 shots. Junior Wesley Barnes led the team with five goals and two assists, hitting seven out of nine attempts for a team-high seven points. Freshman Miller Magee contributed three points with one goal and two assists, while Turner Johnson scored two goals despite strong defensive coverage. Brody Szymanski, Drew Ernst, and Braxton Stevens also added to the scoring effort. However, the Sharks missed opportunities and could not capitalize on their chances.
Defensively, May River collected 23 ground balls and forced 13 turnovers. Freshman Jaxson Mullett stood out with six ground balls and three takeaways. Grant Turner added five ground balls and three takeaways, while seniors Jake Lewis and B. O’Reilly forced five turnovers each, according to MaxPreps.
Looking ahead, May River is scheduled to host Mauldin Mavericks in another non-conference game on March 18, according to MaxPreps.
The upcoming match will be the first recorded meeting between May River and Mauldin this season.
