The May River Sharks protected their home turf with a gritty 13-12 victory over the Riverwood Raiders.
The teams met on March 14, at May River High School.
May River’s offensive engine was fueled by a dominant 7-point performance from Ella Claire Harwell, who spearheaded the attack with five goals and two assists, followed by Gracyn Hoover, who secured 4-points with one goal and three assists. The Sharks dictated the flow of the contest through elite midfield play, as Harwell, Hoover, and Meredith Kelly won critical draws that kept the Raiders’ defense on its heels and opened the door for a balanced scoring rotation featuring three goals from Kelly and four combined goals from Allison Rossillo and Landrum Barnes.
While the offense built the lead, the defense secured the result, anchored by goalkeeper Miah Dray, who notched five vital saves to thwart the Raiders’ comeback attempt and seal the one‑goal win. With just 0.2 seconds remaining, the May River girls lacrosse team netted the decisive goal to edge Riverwood.
May River will host Socastee on Saturday, March 21, at 2 p.m. for a non-conference game.
This upcoming match will be the first recorded meeting between the May River Sharks and the Socastee Braves, according to MaxPreps.
