May River’s 19–6 win over James Island on March 30 looked like a team operating fully in sync, controlling the pace, the possession, and the scoreboard from start to finish.
The game saw May River control the pace and possession throughout, resulting in a decisive victory. The Sharks dominated the draw circle, winning 29 of 36 draws, which kept the ball in their hands and allowed their offense to flow in long, uninterrupted stretches.
Freshman Ella Claire Harwell contributed 11 draw wins, while Gracyn Hoover added seven total points as May River converted 19 goals on 36 shots for a .528 shooting percentage. Their defensive pressure was just as decisive. The Sharks piled up 20 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, repeatedly breaking up James Island’s possessions and limiting clean looks at the cage. Freshman goalie Miah Dray faced only seven shots on goal, securing the win behind a defense that smothered nearly every attempt to build momentum.
With that commanding performance behind them, May River now shifts focus to a first-ever matchup with St. Vincent’s on Monday, April 20, at 5:30 p.m.
MaxPreps records show no previous meetings between May River and St. Vincent’s, giving this non-conference game a fresh edge. The Sharks enter with rhythm and confidence, aiming to carry their possession control and defensive intensity into a brand new matchup.
