In a closely contested overtime match, May River High School’s football team narrowly lost to West Ashley with a final score of 31-30. The game was marked by intense exchanges between the teams, keeping spectators engaged until the last moment.

According to the match report, both teams demonstrated strong performances throughout regulation time. The Sharks’ defense was notable for its resilience, with Michael Poole achieving six solo tackles and one interception, while Justin Head contributed three solo tackles and two assists. Despite these efforts, West Ashley’s offense ultimately gained the upper hand in overtime.

Sean Mitchell played a pivotal role in May River’s offensive strategy, rushing for 142 yards and scoring two touchdowns on 28 carries. Andrew Johnson added another 122 yards and a touchdown, highlighting the team’s robust rushing capabilities. However, their passing game faced challenges as quarterback Luc Tran completed only one pass out of two attempts for no gain.

The critical moment of the game occurred during overtime when a failed conversion attempt left May River just one point behind. Although their defense remained steadfast, West Ashley capitalized on their final possession to secure the victory, resulting in a narrow defeat for May River.
